This IC controls Laptop battery charging system but also enables DC-IN section to let the voltage and current flow through different parts of motherboard.
In case you have a short or bad component in laptop motherboard this charging IC will stop the flow of voltage to the motherboard regulators to avoid further damage to the motherboard.
Charging IC is responsible for controlling battery charging through SCL and SDA. Which is directly connected to Laptop motherboard SIO chip.
A bad charging IC can cause different problems with your laptop.
For example,
- battery is not charging
- battery is charging but drains out too quickly
- battery not detected
- In worse case laptop is not Power ON.
